SBN Asset+ Mobile App

SBN Asset+ is the mobile app for tracking assets and managing asset-related tasks in the field. Users can add new assets, scan asset IDs, dispose of assets, and perform reconciliation activities—with or without an active internet connection. Asset records created or updated in the app sync back to the SBN web platform for reporting and review.

Getting the App

SBN Asset+ is available for both iOS and Android.

  • iOS: Search for "SBN Asset+" in the App Store
  • Android: Search for "SBN Asset+" in Google Play

Download and install the app before attempting to log in. Contact your SBN administrator if you need help identifying which app to use for your role.

Logging In

To log in to SBN Asset+:

  1. Open the app and tap SIGN IN AS EXISTING USER
  2. On the Enter Domain screen, enter your organization's SBN domain in the domain field and tap GO. The .simplebutneeded.net suffix is fixed — enter only your organization's subdomain.
  3. Enter your Username and Password and tap LOGIN

Your domain and credentials are provided by your SBN administrator. If you do not know your domain, tap FORGOT DOMAIN? on the domain entry screen.

The Launch Pad

After logging in, the app opens to the Launch Pad—the home screen for SBN Asset+. The Launch Pad is organized into four sections: Assets, Search, Reconciliation, and Sync.

The Settings link in the top-left corner provides access to app-level configuration. The Log Out link in the top-right corner ends your session.

Assets

The Assets section provides three actions for managing asset records.

Add New

Tap Add New to open the Create Asset With... prompt. Select how to create the new asset:

  • Category — Opens the Select Category screen, which displays all asset categories available in your organization. Tap a category to begin creating a new asset using that category's structure. Categories are created and managed by administrators in the web interface under Asset > Administration > Categories.
  • Pre-Filled Template — Opens the Select Template screen, which displays all available asset templates. Each template shows a View Details button to review the template before creating, and a Create button to immediately create a new asset pre-populated with the template's data. Templates are created and managed by administrators in the web interface under Asset > Administration > Templates.

Tap Cancel to dismiss the prompt and return to the Launch Pad.

After selecting a category or template, the Create Asset screen opens. The form begins with an Asset Details section containing the following fields:

  • Name* — Required
  • Description — Optional
  • Location* — Required
  • Status* — Required
  • Asset ID — Optional
  • Owner — Auto-populated with the logged-in user
  • Created by — Auto-populated with the logged-in user
  • Barcode — Optional

Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. Below Asset Details, category-specific attribute sections are displayed based on the selected category's configuration. Tap Save to create the asset or Cancel to discard.

ID Scan

Tap ID Scan to open the Entry Mode prompt. Select how to enter the asset barcode:

  • Camera — Opens the device camera. Center the barcode in the viewfinder window. The app displays the instruction "Display the barcode in the middle of the window for a successful scan." Tap Cancel to exit without scanning.
  • Manual — Opens the Please enter an Asset Barcode dialog. Type the barcode value in the text field and tap OK, or tap Cancel to dismiss.

Tap Cancel on the Entry Mode prompt to return to the Launch Pad without scanning.

After the barcode is entered, the app displays the Asset Details screen for the matched asset. See Dispose for a description of the Asset Details screen.

Dispose

Tap Dispose to open the Entry Mode prompt. Select how to enter the asset barcode for the asset to be disposed:

  • Camera — Opens the device camera to scan the asset's barcode.
  • Manual — Opens the Please enter an Asset Barcode dialog to type the barcode value manually.

Tap Cancel on the Entry Mode prompt to return to the Launch Pad.

After the barcode is entered, the app displays the Asset Details screen for the matched asset. Review the asset information to confirm you have the correct asset. The screen displays standard fields including Name, Description, Location, Status, Asset ID, Owner, Created by, and Barcode, followed by any category-specific attribute sections configured for that asset type.

Tap Dispose in the top-right corner to confirm the disposal. Tap Cancel in the top-left corner to return to the Launch Pad without disposing the asset.

The Search section provides access to asset record lookup.

Tap Form Search to open the search filter screen. The screen begins with an Asset Details section containing standard search fields, followed by category-specific attribute group sections that vary based on your organization's configuration. All fields are optional — you can search using a single field, a combination of fields across multiple sections, or any level of specificity in between.

The Asset Details section contains the following fields:

  • Name — Filter by asset name
  • Description — Filter by description text
  • Location — Tap to select a location. The Include Sub-Locations? toggle — enabled by default — expands the search to include assets at child locations within the selected location
  • Asset status — Tap to select from available asset statuses
  • Category — Tap to filter by asset category
  • Asset ID — Filter by asset ID
  • Owner — Tap to select an owner
  • Created by — Tap to select the creator
  • Barcode — Enter a barcode value manually or tap Scan to use the device camera

Below Asset Details, additional attribute group sections are displayed based on your organization's asset category configuration. Field types in these sections may include text entry, dropdowns, date range filters (Before, After, or Between), and boolean toggles (True / False).

Tap Search in the top-right corner to apply the filters and view matching asset records. Tap Clear All to reset all filter fields. Tap ‹ Launch Pad to return to the Launch Pad without searching.

Search results are displayed as a scrollable list. Each asset record shows the asset name, location, barcode, Asset ID, and description. Tap an asset to open its full record. Tap + in the top-right corner to add a new asset. Tap Mass Edit at the bottom to apply bulk changes to all assets in the results list. Tap ‹ Back to return to the search filter screen.

Reconciliation

The Reconciliation section provides tools for verifying and updating asset records by location.

By Location

Tap By Location to open the location picker. The screen displays locations within your organization, each with the following controls:

  • Next Level (blue) — Appears on locations that have child locations. Tap to drill down and view sub-locations.
  • Select (green) — Tap to select the location and view all assets assigned to it.
  • + — Tap to open the Add New Sub-Location dialog. Enter a name for the new sub-location and tap Save, or tap Cancel to dismiss.

Use the search bar at the top to filter locations by name. Tap Cancel to return to the Launch Pad.

After selecting a location, the app displays a list of all assets assigned to that location. Each asset record shows the asset name, location, barcode, and description. Use the search bar to filter assets by name. The following actions are available from the bottom toolbar: Reconcile and Mass Edit.

Tap an asset to open its full record. The asset record screen is organized into three tabs:

Details — Displays the asset's information, including standard fields (Name, Description, Location, Status, Asset ID, Owner, Created by, Barcode) and any category-specific attribute sections configured for that asset type. Tap any field to edit it. Tap Save to save changes or Cancel to discard them.

Inspections — Displays inspection activity for the asset, organized into three sections:

  • New Inspection — Tap Create New Inspection for Asset to start a new inspection linked to this asset
  • Inspections — Shows counts for Tasks (scheduled inspections) and Completed inspections. Tap either row to view the associated records.
  • Drafts — Shows the count of inspection drafts saved locally on the device that have not yet been synced to the server

Exceptions — Displays exception activity for the asset, organized into three sections:

  • New Exception — Tap Create New Exception for Asset to log a new exception linked to this asset
  • Exceptions — Shows counts for Open, In Progress, Closed, and Deferred exceptions. Tap any row to view the associated records.
  • Drafts — Shows the count of exception drafts saved locally on the device that have not yet been synced to the server

Tap Reconcile to begin a reconciliation session for the selected location. Reconciliation allows you to physically verify that the assets expected at a location are present — assets are marked as matched when confirmed, and discrepancies are flagged for follow-up. The Reconciliation screen lists all assets at the selected location with their name, location, barcode, Asset ID, and description. Each asset displays a status button showing its current reconciliation state — tap the button to update it. Tap to open the full asset record — the same Details, Inspections, and Exceptions tabs described above. Tapping anywhere else on an asset row will immediately delete that asset with no confirmation prompt.

Use the filter tabs — Open, Match, Other, and All — to narrow the list by reconciliation status.

The bottom toolbar provides the following actions: + to add a new asset (opens the same Create Asset With... prompt as Add New on the Launch Pad), Clone to duplicate a selected asset record, ID Scan to scan an asset barcode, and Edit to enter selection mode. In selection mode, each asset row displays a checkbox — tap to select one or more assets. Once assets are selected, the bottom toolbar shows: Ignore to mark selected assets as ignored, the trash icon to delete selected assets, Move Out to mark selected assets as moved out, and Done to exit selection mode.

Tap Enabled in the top-left to toggle the reconciliation session on or off. Tap × to close and return to the asset list.

Tap Finalize when you are ready to submit the reconciliation. If any assets remain in the open state, a warning prompt appears: "This reconciliation contains records that are in the open state. All open records should be addressed prior to reconciliation submission." Select how to set all remaining open records before proceeding:

  • Ignored — Mark remaining open records as ignored
  • Matched — Mark remaining open records as matched
  • Disposed — Mark remaining open records as disposed
  • Moved Out — Mark remaining open records as moved out

Tap Cancel to return to the reconciliation without finalizing.

After resolving any open records, the Reconciliation Review screen displays a summary of the session:

  • Unmatched Asset Count — Assets not accounted for
  • Matched Asset Count — Assets confirmed present
  • Created Asset Count — New assets added during the session
  • Disposed Asset Count — Assets marked as disposed
  • Moved In Asset Count — Assets moved into the location
  • Ignored Asset Count — Assets marked as ignored

Tap Complete to submit the reconciliation, or tap ‹ Back to return and make changes. After completing, the app syncs the reconciliation data — the sync screen displays upload and download progress until the process is finished.

Tap Mass Edit to open the Asset Details form for bulk editing. Any values you enter will be applied to all assets at the selected location at once — fields left empty will not be changed. The form includes the standard asset fields (Name, Description, Location, Status, Asset ID, Owner, Created by, Barcode) and a Photos section. Tap Save to apply the changes or Cancel to discard them.

Drafts

Tap Drafts to open the Reconciliation Drafts screen, which lists reconciliation records that have been saved locally on the device but not yet synced to the server. The badge on the Drafts tile on the Launch Pad displays the number of drafts currently saved on your device. Tap Edit to manage draft records. Tap ‹ Back to return to the Launch Pad.

Sync

Tap Sync to open the Sync Menu, which provides controls for managing data synchronization between your device and the SBN server. The badge on the Sync tile displays the number of records queued for upload. The Sync Menu is organized into four sections.

Auto-Sync Settings

  • Use Data Auto-Sync — Toggle to enable or disable automatic syncing. When enabled, the app syncs data in the background at the configured frequency.
  • Frequency — Sets how often auto-sync runs. Use the and + buttons to adjust.
  • Wi-Fi Only — Toggle to restrict auto-sync to Wi-Fi connections only. When enabled, the app will not sync over cellular data.

Asset Queues

  • Modification Queue — Displays the number of asset modifications queued for upload. Tap to view queued records.
  • Failed Uploads — Displays the number of records that failed to upload. Tap to view and retry failed records.

Offline Inspections and Exceptions

  • Field Check Exceptions — Displays the number of unsynced field check exceptions saved on your device. Tap to view queued records.
  • Inspections — Displays the number of unsynced inspections saved on your device. Tap to view queued records.
  • Sync Offline Inspections and Exceptions — Tap to immediately sync all offline inspection and exception records.

Local Database: Locations, Checklists, etc.

  • Last Sync Time — Displays the date and time of the most recent successful sync.
  • Update Local Database with Recent Changes — Tap to pull the latest locations, checklists, and other configuration data from the server to your device.
  • Delete Local Database and Refresh — Tap to clear all locally stored data and re-download it from the server. Use this if your local data appears outdated or corrupted.

Settings

Tap Settings in the top-left corner of the Launch Pad to open the Settings screen. The current app version is displayed at the top. The following options are available:

  • Submit Feedback — Tap to submit feedback about the app
  • Privacy Policy — Tap to view the SBN privacy policy
  • Open Source Attributions — Tap to view open source license information

Logging Out

Tap Log Out in the top-right corner of the Launch Pad to end your session and return to the login screen.
